FAQ's:
*Does the model have to sign a release?
Yes.
*Do you retouch the photos?
Retouching is done on a "final use" basis.. For example, you plan on showing them to an agency, the photos/ prints will not be retouched other than tonal adjustments, color correcting, and sharpening, because agencies want to see what you look like, not what a photographer can make you look like. Everyone has "flaws". Agencies often take Polaroids themselves for their own records. However, if the final use will be used in an advertisement, or commercial use for the agency, then I may retouch "flaws", without making major changes to the actual look of you. It is possible for a model to get rejected after presenting a comp card full of retouched images to and agent, and looking very different in person.
*Does a minor have to be accompanied by a parent? Yes.
*What size prints should I use for my portfolio?
A 9x12 book is the standard portfolio book size of most A-list agencies. Many photographers like to provide the model with 8x10 prints, because they are less expensive to make. 9x12 prints cost about twice as much to make. I however, don't cut corners when it comes to your final product. I don't supply you with prints, knowing that they are too small to be looked at by any real agency when you have a "go see" with them, and if you want to make a good first impression with them, you go there prepared. In addition to this, I have my pictures printed at a professional lab, who's printing machine is colour calibrated to what my editing monitor looks like, so the pictures I send them, look just like how they look on my screen. One hour photo labs, drug stores, & department store photo labs don't offer the quality or consistency as my lab does. I am all about quality, not corner cutting.
